Teams from The Park, Navi Mumbai and Apeejay Institute of Hospitality (AIH) visited the Bandra East Community Centre on 15th January 2009. The entire team was fully involved with children s activity. For me, it was a enriching experience to be of service to so many bright children who ask for nothing but quality time!! It was fun and thrilling to be with 60 young bundles of energy, who unleashed their creativity on chart paper and got us all involved. It is amazing to realise that all they want from us is a few hours of quality time. Not too much for any of us to commit as long as it comes from the heart! Swarup Datta, General Manager, The Park, Navi Mumbai (TPNM)

The activity was well very well managed.
Ms Prarthana managed to involve all of us. It was a very fulfilling experience. The game chosen for ice breaking was very different (8,4,2) and a lot of fun.We actually danced and played and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The iVolunteer head had a very dynamic personality and managed to reach out to all the kids. Once divided into groups (2 kids for every adult) we got together for an activity and write down resolutions.

I have been a supporter of volunteering work since my youth days, I am a part of Akansha Group teaching slum children on weekends and environment related issues with Street Plays.
It was a great experience to share our love and affection with all kids at B.E.C.C. I feel that with that every small contribution of time and effort can make a difference in someone's life. We all are fortunate enough to have the gifts of health and well-being in life, To me volunteering is a permanent value.

It was just amazing to interact with these children. The energy level, talent, knowledge which these kids had was just amazing, no-one could tell that they were from lower social-economical class. I was really touched at the way they welcomed us and the thank-you and appreciation they showered on us. It was a wonderful experience and hope to do it more often.
Rebecca Dutta, Senior Public Relations Executive, TPNM

The children were extremely creative, smart and naughty! They spoke so much about themselves- what they like to do, what they want to become plus their resolutions. Also spoke of the pressure of the exams (final exams this week). We would also like to suggest one thing that initially there should have been a short brief about how we are going to carry out the activity and little bit of introductory session.

The ISR phase-2 activity held at Bandra Community Centre was a fun filled activity. It has given an insight to how young and innocent children need some attention to take care of them. & what difference we can really make by just spending some effective time with them.

It was a very wonderful experience , the children were very warm and friendly and also full of ideas, thoughts and hopes, they definitely benefit from the guidance of volunteers who spend quality time with them. Each person must take time out from their schedules to volunteer as then they will understand the difference they can make to lives of underprivileged children/people.
Ayesha D'souza, Apeejay Business Centre, Mumbai

It was definitely an enriching experience. We reminisce the faces of all the kids with whom we had a wonderful time. Rightly as they say, ''It is more important to be altruistic than self-interested". We had a spectacular evening at 'Bandra East Community Centre'. We sincerely hope and look forward to having more of such visits to bring a smile for our brothers and sisters in the coming future.

“I would only suggest one thing to all of you out there...Please visit an old age home at least once...you will want to go again and help them share their grief. Our visit to FINS (Friends In Needs Society) this morning was an eye-opener for all. I believe that it is our duty and responsibility to care for our parents and elders in the family in their old age.. Spending these 3 hours with them made us understand how much a smile and a few words of care meant to them." Thomas Kuriyan - Associate Director, Human Resources
|
|

"It was a great experience to share our love and affection with the old folks at the FINS during the Christmas season. As the saying goes though they are old, they are young at heart. and always smiling."

The I- volunteer visit to APD was an overwhelming and humbling experience for me. It served as a hard reminder of how life cannot be taken for granted. It was also a great lesson in determination and resolve.Watching the positive energy of the children one could feel that even despite their disabilities their resolve to succeed and overcome the odds was higher than what we see in our day to day lives. We could easily walk away feeling enriched with the experience - a deep
sense of humility and gratitude to have been able to spend some meanigful moments with the children. Mandaar Sukhtankar, Executive Chef, The Park, Bangalore

"Today was the first experience for me to visit an old age home. It was an experience of mixed feelings coming from a joint family background.
On one hand we are getting an opportunity to interact with these wise souls who all are beaming with loving energies and enthusiasm. Dancing gracefully, playing joyfully, their interactions filled with passion. On the other side a mockery on our present day society wherein we have deserted our own parents and family members to pursue our whims and fancies giving a blind eye to their sacrifices and patience."
Ms. Megha Dinesh - Brand Manager Aura

"Life seems to be meaningless when you see them. A person toil all through his life for the family, thinking a day would come when he/she can just relax and spend time with his/her grand children and tell tales of his youthful days to them. But when I saw them today it was clear in their smile, life has not kept its promise. Spending three hours with them today has brought such a lot of happiness and satisfaction to me.
There are lots of special day's in one's life, this day would definitely be one of my Special Day..

"Following the visit to the Association of Physically Handicapped, yesterday, I felt I should take my family and visit the place on any non-working day. This would enable people to open up their minds. Similarly, if all the of us can put a word to our other colleagues & Friends about such schools / associations, and suggest them to visit along with their families, I feel we would be making a good world to live in."
B Srinivasa, Associate Director - Human Resources

"I have been an ardent supporter of volunteering & charity work since my
youth, i feel that with that every small contribution of time & effort can make a difference in someone's life. We all are fortunate enough to have the gifts of health & well-being in life, yesterday's event reinforced my conviction that its upon us how we can use these possessions for the betterment of people lesser fortunate than us. To me volunteering is not a
temporary feeling, it's all about permanent values what we have inculcated
in our life"
Subrata Majumder, General Manager

"It is always hurtful to see small kids suffering with any ailment but
this visit has given me a lot of peace. It was heart warming to see the
efforts APD is putting in for their development, i could see hope for
these kids to become fulfilled individuals. I am sure people like us
spending time with them will help them to adjust better to the outside
world"

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand.
Experience on Volunteerism was thought provoking and gives us a lot of insights. Those kids dont need any sympathy, advice or solutions, what they need is time, education and opportunities. If some of us can do that, it will be great.
Abhijit Bose, General Manager, The Park New Delhi

“This was my first experience as a volunteer and it feels great.” “We've never done something like this before and would surely like to continue further, I can surely take out time on weekends”.
“My wife too can surely take drawing classes here, I will soon get in touch with you again. Thanks for the experience”. “It was fun and learning at the same time. Such experiences always end up teaching you something about yourself and the world around you.” Mr Subhasish Saha, Chief technology Officer

It was my first experience with any group like this. Was very scared, but felt really good later on. Coming to their level and interacting with them was difficult but helped them to bring out whatever they wanted to share with us. This wouldn’t have been the case when we would have seen them on roads. Learnt to respect, care and understand another section of society.

On 25th Nov 2008 our iVolunteers from TPND set forth to a day of social activity at Ashalayam NGO, Okhla, to spend quality time and interact with the children of the NGO. The highlights of the activity were the stupendous lively dance performance by the children, the creative group presentation given collectively by the volunteers and the children on topics like personal hygiene, career counselling and good staple diet. During the course of the activities the children shared their aspirations and dreams of building their careers and giving back to the society. They spoke about their families, their home, personal likes and dislikes too. There was distribution of food gifts amongst the children after the round of interactional activities.
Salman Qureshi, Director HR TPND

I really liked the atmosphere where I went to teach those children. They were very friendly and cooperative with us. When I was distributing chocolates and balloons to them I really liked the happiness on their faces. I would really visit the place once in a week when I will be tired of my work and when I want to attain happiness in my life. I would really like to do some contribution of my little money, education and happiness with them in my life. Dwipayan Biswas, Asst. Supervisor - Housekeeping

Whenever I have done some kind of social service, I have taken part in environment related issues. I have never done it related to children, partly because I have cretche at my home and was never too touched by kids.
However today was different. Probably not in terms of their behaviour (all kids behave the same way!). But may be because I was missing home. Cackle of kids for me is very homely sound as I have heard it since childhood. They reminded me of my home.
The joy of remembering was so much that I found myself laughing first at myself, then at them and finally with them. I got so engrossed with them that I forgot time and other commitments.
Children have unique way of finding joy in everything. I saw that today, and will try definitely try to inculcate in myself. Past the activity I feel extremely relaxed and satisfied. I guess sleep is not the only way to get refreshed. Simply making a child smile can do as much.Sameer Mehta, General Management Trainee

The desire for doing something for the underprivileged part of our society was always present in me. This was the best platform ever as a part of once career one could expect. In fact the very thought of contributing something that is valuable and significant for an individual’s satisfaction was achieved.
The kids were so enthusiastic even for the pettiest things we did for them. This is a step elevated for us which evokes a professional’s conscience for the upliftment of a society which can create wonders in dynamic dimensions just with a ray of light, an initiated action for the future of our country.
We must be committed towards our initiative and make sure this urge of helping somebody underprivileged always grows with time.Anupam S, Kitchen Management Trainee

Today I participated at iVolunteer session during duty hours with our friends and seniors. We visited Don Bosco school for children. I saw lots of children who were fond of teachers and friends. We enjoyed and played a lot with them. I feel happy and also pity to see them. In future I would like to continue to go there again.
